Introduction

• The Institute of Qualified Lifeguards (IQL) Approved Training Centre (ATC) scheme is designed to provide very high standards in the training and assessment of lifeguards. These standards go a long way in meeting the recommendations set within the HSE guidance Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools (HSG179).

  Training Connections offer guidance and advise for the implementation of the ATC scheme, we have a vast experience with the implementation of this guidance across all types of organisations.

Aims

• To ensure that organisations with swimming pool facilities meet all requirements as set by the Royal Lifesaving Society Approved Training Centre Scheme and to meet all related Institute of Qualified Lifeguards (IQL) Operational Manual Standards. This will enable any organisation to deliver National Pool lifeguarding Unit 1 and Unit 2 courses and to deliver ongoing competency assessed training, requalification of personnel, and would be in a strong position to generate additional income from National Pool Lifeguard courses.

Key Outcomes

• Provide your organisation with full IQL Approved Training Centre Status
• Implementation of all ATC systems of work.
• Training and development of personnel to effectively manage the scheme.
• Meet specific requirements as detailed in ‘Managing Health and Safety in Swimming Pools’ HSE guidance.
• Implementation of an auditable record keeping system

Eligibility

• Organisations who are currently delivering staff training or following a separate lifeguading qualification and need their standards to be raised to meet national health and safety guidance.

  This scheme is also for any organisation which operates a swimming pool facility whether they come from the public, private, trust sector or school / college environments.
